Why we started Across the Table

We got tired of watching great people in Charlotte burn out on dating apps — endless swiping, dead-end chats, and first dates that fizzle before the drinks arrive. So we flipped it: skip the apps entirely and start where the apps end, face to face.

Every night we run is small and balanced on purpose. We cap seats on both sides, host at the city's best coffee shops, breweries, and rooftops, and handle everything — the rotation, the timing, the name tags — so all you have to do is show up and talk.

And because we remember who you've met, coming back never means re-running an old conversation. Every night is a room full of new people. That's our promise, and nobody else in Charlotte makes it.

The house rules

  • 21+ only. Every event, every format.
  • Balanced rooms. Equal seats on both sides, capped.
  • Your contact info stays yours until a match is mutual.
  • No repeats. You'll never be seated with someone you've already met.
  • Be cool. Anyone making others uncomfortable is out, no refund.

What should I wear?
Come as the most confident version of yourself. Most people land on smart-casual — think a nice top and jeans, or whatever makes you feel good walking into a room. Our coffee nights run a little more relaxed; cocktail nights lean slightly dressier. No dress code, no pressure.
I'm nervous — is that normal?
Completely. Almost everyone walks in a little nervous, and that's exactly why the format works: short, structured conversations mean you're never stuck, and there's always a next person in a few minutes. Our hosts keep the night moving and friendly. Most people tell us the nerves are gone within the first two conversations.
How do the matches work?
During the night you privately mark anyone you'd like to see again. The next morning, we send you only your mutual matches — people who picked you back. No rejections, no awkward in-room reveals. And we never seat you with someone you've already met at a previous event, so every night is a fresh room.
What's your refund policy?
Life happens. If you can't make it, let us know at least 48 hours before the event and we'll move your ticket to a future night or issue a refund. Within 48 hours we can't refund (the room is already balanced and capped), but we'll always try to transfer your seat to another date. Just reply to your confirmation email.
Do I pay at the door?
No — everything is handled online when you book, so there's nothing to pay or carry on the night. Just bring your ticket (it's in your confirmation email) and yourself. We don't take in-person payments at events.
How is my information handled?
We only collect what we need to run the event and your matches — your name, contact details, and who you'd like to see again. We never sell your data, and we don't share your contact info with other guests unless you both match and choose to connect. Your details are used to run Across the Table events and nothing else.
Who comes to these?
Charlotte locals who'd rather meet someone in person than swipe. Each night is age-banded so you're meeting people in a similar life stage, and rooms are capped and balanced on both sides. Real people, real conversations, no bots or ghosting.
What if there's an uneven number of people?
We cap tickets on each side and keep a close eye on balance as nights fill, so the room stays even. If something falls through last-minute, our hosts adjust the rotation so everyone still gets a full set of conversations.
